On Monday December 14, 2009 the Vernon campus held their student appreciation day and open house! They served hot chocolate, apple cider, hot chocolate chip cookies and snacks for all. Students enjoyed the goodies on their break and open house guests included Community Futures, Access to Employment, Nurse Next Door, CBD, Vernon & District Immigrant Services Society and Vernon chapter of learning Disability Association.

On Saturday June 20, 2009 there will be a street festival on the main street in Vernon called the Sunshine Festival. Staff and student will be present at the event and will be providing the community with face painting and a draw for a scholarship. This is a great opportunity for staff and students to have some fun together in the Vernon community!

A student from the Vernon campus spent the morning of Tuesday June the 4 with the Vernon City Council working on Vernon’s homeless issues and also spent the morning looking around town for camps to see if they needed any assistance with food or toiletries. This practicum is being supported by the John Howard Society in Vernon and the sheltered is called Gateway. They have been a huge support to Sprott Shaw Community College and our practicum students; providing them with local contacts in different agencies that also support the homeless which in turn creates a lead a lead for future jobs and practicums for our students.
