East Vancouver PN Pinning Ceremony

by Dolly Anne on Nov.04, 2009, under Events

On Monday November 2, 2009 the East Vancouver campus held their Pinning Ceremony for the Practical Nurses. The Practical Nurses will be graduating on Friday November 6th! The East Vancouver campus had 9 students attend with their family and friends. The Pinning Ceremony took place at the Renfrew Community Center and the students underwent the old tradition of the pinning and capping of new nurses. This is a tradition dating and originating back to Florence Nightingale in the 1800’s. Students receive a traditional nurses cap, a pin and a candle while the Practical Nursing students recite the Florence Nightingale Pledge.

A Beautiful Compliment to two LPN Instructors

by Dolly Anne on Jun.05, 2009, under General

“I would like to take this opportunity to let you know that you could not have better instructors in the LPN program than Lynne Wozney and Sheila Ackford. I had the privilege to work with both these ladies ar Glacier View Lodge. They were the biggest supporters an LPN could have, and great examples of caring, nuturing yet firm employers. I often tell potential students when they call about going into programs how honored I would have been to be taught by Lynne and Sheila, and how lucky they would be to be in their classe. This is big for me, because I am a two time Discovery Grad, but I hvae no qualms about sending someone to you for the absolute finest teaching they could receive anywhere.”

Nurses’ week starts today and will end Friday May 15. In order to celebrate Nurses Week, the Kamloops campus’ Practical Nursing students will be setting up a free blood-pressure clinic. Knowing your blood pressure is a necessity to understanding your health.

Throughout this three semester diploma program, you will learn the full range of competencies in Pharmacology and medication administration. Programs includes 3 practicum’s one at the end of each semester. Finally a five week Preceptorship follows the successful completion of all semesters.

Do you know yours? If you do not know and you happen to be in Kamloops, come to Victoria Square and find out!
