Lower Mainland Spring Grad

by Dolly Anne on May.22, 2009, under Events

Sprott Shaw held their Lower Mainland Spring 2009 Graduation Ceremony last night. It was a great event. You could feel the excitement in the air; it was like a scene from a movie. As students began to enter the building you could begin to hear excitement from all the family and friends seeing their loved ones graduate, every face had a smile.

When the event started, the energy was high! As guests were being seated you could hear cheers from more than 180 graduates up on the third floor. As the graduates entered the auditorium the sounds of grandeur filled the Center of Performing Arts with a standing ovation to all of the grads. Our master of ceremonies Rob, the Director of Curriculum Development, did a fantastic job, and really set an excellent tone for the entire evening. We had two guest speakers in attendance for the evening, Mr. Bill Weymark and Mr. Dick Harris, both of whom gave excellent speeches! Our Chancellor The Honourable Brian Peckford, gave a very memorable speech. As he took the stage you couldn’t do anything besides listen to him. Mr. Peckford had such a strong presence, you could not turn away.

The President of Sprott Shaw Community College Mr. Dean Duperron took the stage. As he began his speech you could sense the pride he has in the students of Sprott Shaw. To be able to see students who have successfully completed their programs, whether it be a diploma or degree program. It’s exciting, this is a huge step in a person’s life and it is such an honour to be apart of this moment in their lives.  Sprott Shaw’s two Valedictorian’s gave excellent speeches, both students were very articulate and had the crowds full attention.

All in all last night was an excellent evening! All the work to set up was well worth it; I would like to thank everyone who helped to make the evening possible. Dave & Sue were to two people responsible to getting the evening going and what a great job they did! To all Sprott Shaw Community College Graduates of 2009 we wish you all the best!! Good luck with all future endeavors.

On Thursday May 21, 2009 the Vancouver Graduation ceremony is being held at 7:00pm. Graduating from a Post Secondary institution is one of the many stepping stone in our lives. However this step does not need to end after receiving your diploma! Graduates who are still interested in continuing with your educating are more than welcome too with Sprott Shaw’s degree program.

Graduates who are interested in registering in our Bachelor of Business Administration in either a Marketing or Human resource concentration in July can receive a $1000.00 scholarship. Not only will you receive a $1000.00 scholarship but a one time application fee will also be waived. However this offer is only valid for the July start date. The $1000.00 scholarship will be taken off the tuition after the first year of the program is completed.

If this is of interest to you visit our Burnaby Campus (#209 – 4250 Kingsway) with your transcript to confirm the credits you have earned already towards Sprott Shaw’s Degree.

You can contact Vicki or an admissions record officer at our Burnaby Campus (604) 430 5111.

Kamloop’s Graduation 2009

by Dolly Anne on May.01, 2009, under Events

Congratulations to our Kamloops graduates!

Congratulations to our Kamloops graduates!

On Tuesday April 28th, 2009 Kamloops held their graduation ceremonies. The Kamloops graduation went very well. Everyone looked absolutely amazing from staff, graduates to guests! There were approximately 300 guests who attended the graduation, which only proves me point of how big of a milestone it is to graduate from a post secondary institution!! Many guests drove over 16 hours to be present at their friend or family member’s graduation. I was told the cake was amazing by one of our Graduate Service Representatives. All in all it was a very memorable evening!

Kamloops Graduation

by Dolly Anne on Apr.27, 2009, under Campus News, Events

On Tuesday April 28 more than 45 students will be receiving their diplomas and certificates. Graduates are being recognized in all the major programs such as Practical Nursing, Administrative Assistants, Legal Secretary, Community Support Worker, Spa Body Therapy and Kamloop campus’ very first Early Childhood Educators program.

It is always such a great evening and judging by the more than 300 guests invited by the graduates, it is such an important milestone in these students life! You can feel the excitement and anticipation in the air, finally all those months of hard work comes down to this one night where the students are recognized for their great accomplishment. Even though you can feel the excitement there is also a bit of fear, fear of leaving the classroom and entering the job force! It is such a big step for students, leaving the classroom and entering into their career. However, I am confident in the students that they will do great things with their life and step into a successful career!

Congratulation graduates! We at Sprott Shaw wish you all the best!!

Have a Heart Radiothon

by Dolly Anne on Apr.27, 2009, under Campus News, Events

For the third year in a row, Kelowna’s  staff & students have donated their time and enthusiasm to the “Have a Heart” radiothon. The event is hosted by Kelowna’s best radio station –> Sun FM. Over the years, the Kelowna campus have helped raise over $15,000.00 towards Kelowna’s Neo-natal Unit.  The money that is raised stays in Kelowna. The cause is near and dear to the hearts of the Kelowna community and we are extremely proud to work with Sun FM to help raise the funds needed. This year the event is on April 30, right in the middle of our graduation ceremonies! What a fun and busy week ahead for the Kelowna Campus!

This year we are particularly excited as we have the President of Sprott Shaw, Dean Dupperon, volunteering. Yes, that’s right! Our own president is getting involved in this cause. We also have some of our graduated students wanted to participate again this year. Not only does this event bring us a huge sense of community, but we have a lot of fun dodging in and out of traffic collecting donations from stopped cars! Giving back to our community and getting involved is something we take seriously here at Sprott Shaw Community College.

Stayed tuned for this years total amount raised and photos from the event!
